Anton van Leeuwenhoek (Delft, 24 de octubre de 1632 – Delft, 26 de agosto de 1723) fue un comerciante y científico holandés, conocido por las mejoras que introdujo a la fabricación de microscopios y por sus descubrimientos pioneros sobre los protozoos, los glóbulos rojos de la sangre, el sistema de capilares y los ciclos vitales de los insectos.
